LMS Season 1 Gameweek 9 Preview

We are now down to the last 8 players!

GW9 is about to start shortly and at the time of writing all votes are in and this is how it stands….

Alan Woodman, Tony Pound and Jonathan Spoors have all backed Man United who are away to Sheffield United. Casemiro has been ruled out for Manchester United after sustaining a minor injury on international duty. However, defenders Raphael Varane and Sergio Reguilon are fit again and Sofyan Amrabat is available despite missing both of Morocco's games. Sheffield United are winless in six home matches versus Manchester United in all competitions since a 2-1 victory in the FA Cup fifth round in February 1993. Manchester United have scored in 24 successive league and cup games against Sheffield United since a 1-0 top-flight defeat at Bramall Lane 51 years ago.

Paul Ridgewell, Glenn Powell and Trevor Wilmot have backed Nottingham Forest who are at home to Luton Town. Gonzalo Montiel is doubtful for Nottingham Forest after suffering a suspected calf injury playing for Argentina, while Serge Aurier's groin problem will be assessed. Moussa Niakhate returns from a ban but Taiwo Awoniyi, Ola Aina, Danilo and Felipe remain unavailable. Luton have won one of their past 14 games away to Nottingham Forest in all competitions (D6, L7). The Hatters' solitary top-flight victory away to Forest came in March 1983, when Ricky Hill scored the only goal.

Tom Bracey has backed Liverpool who are at home to Everton in the early KO on Saturday. Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson requires surgery on the shoulder injury he sustained on Scotland duty, with Kostas Tsimikas set to deputise. Cody Gakpo appears to have recovered from a knee issue and Diogo Jota returns from a one-match ban but Curtis Jones remains suspended. Liverpool's solitary defeat in the past 28 meetings in all competitions was by 2-0 in the top flight at Anfield in February 2021 (W14, D13). The Toffees have failed to score in 26 of their 62 Premier League clashes with Liverpool - it's their worst record against any opponent.

Ross Jefferies has backed Newcastle who are at home to Crystal Palace. Newcastle will continue to monitor Sven Botman, who is making good progress in his recovery from a knee problem. Alexander Isak is doubtful with a similar issue but Joelinton should return from a hamstring strain and Anthony Gordon is back after a ban. Crystal Palace are winless in four Premier League games against Newcastle (D3, L1), failing to score in each of the last three. They had won three of the previous five top-flight meetings.
